Acura MDX: Why It Still Works So Well as a Family Luxury SUV

There are plenty of luxury SUVs that look great in a showroom. The harder part is finding one that still makes sense when you add kids, backpacks, groceries, road trips, and all the other stuff real life throws into the back seat. That’s where the Acura MDX continues to work particularly well.

Acura has already confirmed that the MDX will receive meaningful updates for the 2027 model year, although complete details haven’t been released yet. In the meantime, the current MDX gives us a pretty good picture of why the formula works.

Three Rows Without Feeling Like a Bus

The MDX seats up to seven people across three rows. The second-row center seat can also be removed, creating a pair of captain’s chairs and making the third row easier to reach. That flexibility matters in a family vehicle. Maybe you need seven seats one day, then want easier third-row access the next. The MDX lets you change the setup without committing to one arrangement forever.

There’s Plenty of Cargo Room

Acura lists up to 95 cubic feet of maximum cargo capacity with the second and third rows folded. There’s also hidden rear cargo storage with a reversible lid that can handle messier items. That’s useful whether you’re loading suitcases, sports gear, strollers, or one of those warehouse-store trips that somehow gets out of hand.

It Still Feels Like an Acura

Family-friendly doesn’t have to mean dull. SH-AWD is available across the MDX lineup and standard on the Type S. The current Type S also uses a 355-horsepower turbocharged V6, giving buyers a performance option that feels very different from the typical three-row SUV. Even the regular MDX has the responsive steering and road manners that have become part of Acura’s personality.

Plenty of Comfort, Too

A panoramic moonroof is standard, and higher trims can add features like ventilated front seats, premium leather, surround-view cameras, heated rear seats, and even massaging front seats. That’s where the MDX strikes a good balance. It can handle family duty without feeling like something you bought purely because you needed more seats.

With 2027 updates already confirmed, the MDX should remain an important part of Acura’s lineup.Visit Jay Wolfe Acura to explore the current MDX and learn more as information on the 2027 model becomes available.
